It could also be a damaged filling, abscessed tooth, or even a fracture. The way you chew or grind your food could be something that can cause pain too.

For some people, the first thing that comes to their minds when they have a toothache is to go to a dentist and have the affected tooth extracted. But take note that this is not always the best solution. There are home remedies that you can take advantage of to relieve the pain and save your tooth from getting pulled.

Warm Salt Water

Salt does wonders. It could be a good remedy if your tooth is hurting, especially at night when you can’t just go see your dentist. Cold Compress

If your toothache is accompanied by swollen gums, then a cold compress will definitely be of help. Hold it for about 20 to 30 minutes against your cheek. If the pain is not reduced, then you can do it for another 20 minutes.

This technique is a way to numb the affected area. It should stop the pain. But remember that if you have a cavity, it might not work that well.

Visit a Dentist

The best thing that you can do to get rid of a toothache is actually to go see a dental professional. He or she should be able to check what the root cause of the problem is. It could be that you already have an infected tooth and you just don’t know it because there is no cavity yet. Or, perhaps you have a gum infection.

A dentist can make the proper diagnosis. Hence, he or she can provide you with a long-term solution. This will also help prevent complications later on.

Your teeth are precious, and so, you should take care of them. A toothache is just one of the problems that you might encounter if you don’t. Moreover, see to it that you pay your dentist regularly.
